In 2007 Icon Event Solutions was commissioned to produce three events back to back in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. As Australia’s leading Electrical Wholesaler and the driving force behind this industries biggest events, the bar was set extremely high to deliver three super shows.
Summer Slam was the culmination of a four month marketing campaign through the national branch network which allowed 2000 VIP guests across three states access to a massive five hour sports styled event that was high on content, character and charisma.
The challenge was to deliver three very similar events in three very different locations across three states in just three weeks.
Venue selection was critical and the Royal Hall of Industries fitted the bill perfectly in Sydney. The event layout and design was developed with this space in mind then applied to Shed 4 in the Melbourne docklands and the John Reid Pavilion in Brisbane. With it’s high vaulted ceiling the RHI presented the perfect platform for the high energy aerial FMX display that was one of the many head spinning stunts performed on the day. Sanctioned Mixed Martial Arts contests in “The Cage”, a 12m skate ramp with Australian champion skate and BMX teams, the infamous “Globe of Death” motorcycle stunt display and a vast array of sports styled activities gave these events the extreme edge our client was looking for. |

With this type of content we needed to add the character, doing so through 45 of Australia’s finest sports stars. Legends past and present chatted, engaged for photos and autographs and entertained guests in their own amiable way. AFL, Soccer and Golf simulators saw plenty of work while the basket ball hoops, slot cars, horizontal bungy, bathtub racers, cricket nets, pool tables and dunking machine all got a workout as guests and stars pitted against each other for sporting supremacy. Andy Raymond of Fox Sports was our go to man for interviews with the celebrities as he orchestrated the massive array of activities and performances throughout the events.
Icon Event Solutions was presented with unique safety and security logistics with this style of event and worked tirelessly with our OH&S specialists to ensure every possibility was presented, discussed, documented and suitable outcomes achieved. All logistics including security, catering, production and transport was managed by Icon to the finest detail to ensure a synergy across all three shows. The production elements were extensive with large format projection relaying performances and activities, satellite stages for dancers and celebrity interviews and a main stage that played host to not only Australia’s comedy superstar Austen Tayshus and rock legend Angry Anderson but a number of highly choreographed dance and stunt displays. The production teams rose to the challenges of each event delivering high energy, fast paced shows that allowed continuous entertainment and enjoyment for all.
Working closely with our client allowed us to understand their goals and present three extremely successful and rewarding events. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead in 2008 posted by this highly experienced and dynamic marketing team. |
